I would like to write a note welcoming new members of teamseesmic to explain what it is about so I thought like asking YOU what it should be about!
Here is what it is about for me:
-getting to know each other much more than usually online (which has been unique about Seesmic since we created it)
-organizing real life events for the community
-learning and sharing about community management
-discuss social software progress and tools
-of course also discuss the tools Seesmic creates but it should not (and it is not) be only about that
-I think many of you have started / would like to learn to start a business so notes and conversations about entrepreneurship would make a lot of sense too
-why not sharing new ideas as businesses too
I like that it is by membership approval only to comment/create content as I am tired about trolls, anonymous and too negative people who spend their time just shooting any new idea. I would like this place to be focusing on the future and allowing new ideas to emerge, I would also like it to be enthusiastic, energetic and positive, just because life is too short to complain all the time!
Having said that, all improvements and constructive criticism should be accepted and in fact encouraged, because that is how we all progress and we always welcome it.
The most important thing for me remains to stay in daily touch and get to know each other better.
What should teamseesmic become for you? Thanks in advance.
The way I see Team Seesmic is a as a big family. Together we're a team, learning from other's mistakes and improving on them. We help each other develop new skills and build on projects.
- With ning, as our main hub for Team Seesmic it adds a lot of freedom for us, giving us the opportunity to create groups, build friendships, and improve on our social skills.
To me, it's about sharing, be it knowledge, ideas, life or anything else, it's just the idea that TeamSeesmic has "put" inside my mind ;-)
I would think TeamSeesmic as an integrated platform for just anything you would want it to be, not only an online social website, not only for sparking or sharing new ideas, not only to interact with people, not only to keep yourself up-to-date with things happen around you, not only to help each other out. I don't know how to define it. But I know TeamSeesmic is trying to give us everything we would like to see.
From Seesmic Video Blogging Community, to Seesmic Desktop, and now TeamSeesmic.
I think all the members, somehow, in some ways, are contributing to shaping up what TeamSeesmic is now. And yeah, I think people use services like TeamSeesmic for businesses too. And this will surely encourage entrepreneurship.
I dont use the term complaint, I love to see people sharing and discussing on topics and in the end it becomes ideas, suggestion, feedbacks, that will improve services or products.
Facebook is already too popular as a Social site and Business platform, really, would TeamSeesmic want to compete in what Facebook is doing? Or TeamSeesmic wants to follow its unique path?
But yes, I do meet a lot of cool people here, those most of them I still don't know who they are. But I believe for those who are here, we do believe that we're somehow connected in someway ;-) Hehe...
To me, still, TeamSeesmic is just about everything I wanna do with it (though I haven't been using it for any business idea yet).
I think teamseesmic is a tool for the iterative process of development. We learn from those who know what is possible technically (from Loic and others) and connect this back to satisfy the community's needs, which in turn stimulates even more technical development. Seesmic's focus, I believe, should be on capitalizing on existing social media to accelerate the formation of communities that thrive through positive outcomes of interactions and exchanges. "Community" is of course a term that defines people with like-minded interests (even if they don't know they are like-minded) and this can be family, friends, business and every combination in between. Teamseesmic allows us to not only share what we know to add to the collective knowledge, but also to stimulate ideas and solutions to challenges we have in social media.
What this means is we would use teamseesmic to have people share how they use existing social media tools and to what end, then build on that to enhance those ends, sometimes by orders of magnitude. I am always surpised to see how often peole are doing things in ways I never imagined, as much as I am amazed that people don't know that something I am doing is possible. We don't necessarily have to have what John Hodgman playfully describesas the "hive mind", but there certainly can be benefits in this!
By definition a place like this is about allowing the community of users to be involved in the creation and evolution of seesmic poducts. But I find the idea of making teamseemic more than this to be very enticing.
I would personally like teemseesmic to be the place to learn how to be empowered by the use of social media. A place with ressouces where we could learn and share the best practices.
Having discussions about entrepreneuship and new business ideas is really exciting. I hope we can see more of that here too.
Furthemore, in regards to maintaining a positive outlook, I could not agree more on that!
Loic, did YOU post a profile on what brought you to this point? If I missed it, I'm sorry.
I think you have general agreement that talking social networking as a whole dovetails with the specifics about how to make programs better. I think the front page of this community needs to have prominent, permanent links to help.seesmic.com and feedback.seesmic.com AND the latest answers/suggestions from there. I hate suggesting something only to know it's been suggested/voted on 1,000 times and is in process. Makes me feel a lil whoops-dumb.
So I guess for me, who is a writer and never will be a coder, it's lifting the veil of secrecy to the most extent feasible and telling us where things are going, and a place to discuss/debate the best UI (skins? font-changeable on the fly?)
There's an amazing amount of activity going on in the Twitter-add-on and app space, so that is naturally part of what would be discussed here - what's good, what's bad and works well with Seesmic.
So as 'news is conversation' (Jeff Jarvis), software development can be too. Can never please everyone, but this is a recipe for great success, to my way of thinking
I like the personal connection from watching your videos -It feels like I already know you. That sense of connection is much different from what you get seeing a list of developer names buried in an 'about' page somewhere. That is what it takes to grow a tribe.
I find that most of my forum and blog administration is finding and banning trolls and spam bots during registration. It is an ongoing battle, but your users DO appreciate the diligence, and none would trade immediate access for the spam it brings.
You have a great product. My wife saw me using Seesmic Desktop and immediately wanted it loaded on her machine. She was attracted to the clean, minimalist interface, dual feeds/services, and compact screen footprint. The single click tweets, retweets, direct messages suit her tech level perfectly.
I also like being able to make comments and suggestions to people who have the power to make things happen. I have high hopes for this forum.
I agree with many of your enthusiastic points already, so you've already covered some ideals of mine, as well. I think I represent the average, passionate end-user of things like Seesmic Desktop, Video Seesmic, Twitter, Facebook, etc. and I am honored that my feedback and input has almost always been heard. In fact, some who work for Seesmic have gone out of their way to wrangle a response from me as constructive feedback.
Beyond the technical and practical, I'm just glad to have made the bonds I made over last summer's height of intimacy on Video Seesmic and I'm hoping this group will help to foster those connections. I've met nearly all with whom I found resonance through Seesmic, but there are a few more armfuls of people to meet... and maybe more!
Thanks again, Loic!
And don't forget about Video Seesmic! It's a beautiful thing! I don't want it to die!
Thank you very much for this post. Until watching your video, I was very confused about the goals for this group. It sounds like your goals are very broad. My best wishes for community success.
